12-15 spent the afternoon rehearsing and preparing to perform a wide range of pieces, from musical classics to vocal solos and ensembles.
After a busy afternoon of rehearsals, the concert took place in the evening, with families and friends enjoying the

The concert took the form of a competition, which was open to everyone to enter and the students were really keen to

Getting
their hands dirty
A
group of children from Bishop William Ward
School in Great Horkesley visited the vegetable
garden at Westwood Park in March to enjoy an
outside lesson.
|
|
|
The
class is one of nearly 450 schools who are taking part in a
national competition being run by the British Potato
Council, which gets children involved in learning about
where food comes from and challenges primary schools to grow
the heaviest potato.
|
For
their competition entries the children are growing potatoes
in buckets at school, and thought it would be a good idea to
be able to compare the results with potatoes grown in the
ground.
|
The
children enjoyed the sunny spring morning and listened to
Estate Manager, Hector Bunting, who talked about planting
and growing their potatoes. Everyone is looking forward to
digging up the crops later in the year

60
guests were encouraged to ‘spend, spend, spend’ and they
did just that, raising over £3,100 for Headway Essex.
Rails of designer suits, elegant, sexy evening wear and
absolutely stunning hats lined the rooms, donated by
Williams and Griffin, and sold for ridiculously low prices.
Designers of the clothes donated included Frank Usher, James
Lakeland, Escada, Caroline Charles and many, many more.
|
|
Guests
gathered for an informal drinks reception while the models
(all Headway staff and volunteers) strutted their stuff on
the ‘catwalk’. Three acts in total made up the fashion
show.
|
As
soon as the show was over the doors were opened to reveal
the spectacular clothes and accessories and ladies were
rushing to the changing rooms to try things on. We are
utterly delighted with the amount raised; the evening was a
hugely enjoyable success. |
The
£3,100 will go to good use with Headway providing
invaluable support service to help families come to terms
with brain injury and offer day care, information and advice
on coping with the practicalities of managing day-to-day
life that can alter dramatically. |

Westwood Park-A Picture of Success
Westwood
Park in Great Horkesley celebrated its fifth anniversary
as The Centre for Business with a caricaturist on hand to
'put people in the picture'.
More
than a hundred guests including guest of honour, Colchester
Mayor Mike Hogg, gathered at the 17th century manor house,
which offers serviced office suites, to hear owner Stephen
Bunting look back at the past and talk of his plans for
the future.
Since
acquiring Westwood Park a decade ago, he said a major restoration
programme had taken place of the house, garden rooms and
coach house, making it one of the most prestigious business
centres in the south-east.
A
wide range of businesses have established themselves at
Westwood Park, including lawyers, bankers, importers, underwriters,
stockbrokers, advertising agents, recruitment specialists,
oversea property agents, gymnasium equipment suppliers, furniture
manufacturers and the most recent client, a national charity
the UK Council on Deafness.
|

|
|
He
said "At the outset five years ago, we decided we would
create a Centre for Business which would be unique, a place
where clients can count on receiving high
quality
facilities and services.
We
believe we have created a very special atmosphere mixing
high tech communications with a country house atmosphere
that is busy and enjoyable."
The
longest serving resident businessman, Michael Harvey, a
marine insurance claims adjustor with Harvey Ashby Ltd,
said he moved to Westwood Park after thirty years in London,
and found the beautiful surroundings offered the perfect
working environment.
He
said "With modern communications, we felt we didn't
need to be in the city since most of our clients are overseas,
and that has been totally vindicated.
It is peaceful and
quiet, the surroundings and staff are excellent- and it
has improved the quality of our lives."
|
As
well as offering fully serviced offices, business support
services, meeting and seminar rooms, Westwood Park also
lays on special events.
Wine
was served at the fifth anniversary celebration produced
from the Buntings' own 40-acre vineyard, Carter's at Boxted,
a joint venture with winemaker Mary Mudd as part of plans
to preserve the local countryside.
Mr
Bunting also added that plans for the John Constable Countryside
and Heritage Centre at the Bunting's former tomato nursery
site nearby were currently being revised and would be re-submitted
to planners in the near future.
He
said 'Bunting & Sons is now in its 182nd year and we
are firmly committed to helping to sustain local rural communities
preserving our heritage for generations to come."
